What is absentee landowner?

What is absentee landowner?

An absentee landowner is an owner of agricultural land who lives away from his property and is not directly involved in day to day production. Within a peasant society, this form of land ownership can be conductive to the appearance of social and political conflicts between landlords and peasants, as in the prerevolutionary France and prerevolutionary China.
